DUCK SOUP COOP
Board Minutes
September 20, 2007
Present: Peggy James, Judy Krajewski, Ann Mueller, Cynthia Nelson, Tania Nezrick, Ruth Peterson, Mary Helen Polensky, Patty Ruback, Loreen Stravers.
The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m.
The agenda was altered to discuss the General Member Meeting first. The meeting is scheduled for December 2 at 5 p.m. Nelson, Krajewski and Mueller have terms ending this year. Nelson will stand for election. Mueller declined to run again and Krajewski requested time to think about the possibility of running again.
Nelson suggested that a three-year term be considered for board members so that the rotation could be two or three board members elected each year rather than three or four which could make for excessive turnover. This suggestion will be considered to be presented as a by-laws change at the General Membership Meeting, but will be discussed further. No action was taken.
MANAGER'S REPORT
James was concerned that the musicians for the Grand Reopening must all be notified about the final schedule for performance. It was suggested that publicizing the playing times may accommodate people who want to come when their favorite group is playing. Peggy will confirm with the groups if she has a list.
A member has asked to use the coop for scheduled appointments for a specific alternative medicine procedure. Discussion centered around the board's inability to envision this happening in a retail space. Given the space available, there were concerns about this possibility.
The Point of Sale system is working fairly well. Shelf labels are in production and glitches are being worked out. Information about sales is easily available. The ease of changing prices is wonderful.
There has been a good response to the new look after reset. Sales are strong. There was no significant drop in sales over the summer except the weekends were somewhat slower. Since the students have returned this fall, sales on weekends have gone up significantly with the average sales per day at about $2300.00.
GRAND REOPENING
Permission for parking has been secured from neighboring businesses. Six staff people will be working all day. Stravers has prepared sales which will be available Friday Saturday and Sunday. Sales will be marked by balloons, but kept in the regular place in the aisles to encourage shopping. Stravers has also prepared giveaways and some raffles. Volunteers will be asked to serve food and collect money. The first volunteer crew on Saturday will work from 8-11 to set up the area. James will be in earlier to open the store and set up a tent.
Polensky moved and Ruback seconded that minutes be approved as circulated. The motion passed. Nelson declared the meeting adjourned by consensus of the board members at 8 p.m.
